'Odisha Development Forum' meeting held for Berhampur Airport

To expedite the establishment of the domestic & cargo Airport project in Berhampur, District Ganjam, Odisha the members of 'Odisha Development Forum' and members of other organizations in a virtual meeting on 31 August, 2020 to chart out the plan for future course of action.



The members pointed out that the State government knowingly not expanding the boundary of 'Berhampur Municipal Corporation' by bringing the suburban areas of the city under BMC and
Secondly, it is showing step-motherly attitude for the establishment of #BerhampurAirport.

The members pointed out,
@ Apart from BBSR if any city has potentiality to run an Airport; is #Berhampur.

@ As per media reports, around 40% passengers to BBSR Airport & 25% passengers to Vizag comes from this region.

@ #Berhampur is a commercial city with around 7 lakh population & the population of Ganjam District is around 40 lakhs.

@ People of 12 districts also depend on Berhampur for various purposes daily.

@ For BUSINESS, Education like IISER, BU, KU, number of Tech, Management, Medical & Professional Institutes, Health care, Gopalpur Port, Industries like Tata SeZ, Saraff, IRE, Birla etc & tourism to #TaraTarini,Gopalpur, Chilka & destinations of South Odisha lakhs of floating population depend on Berhampur which is the gateway to South Odisha.

@ Around 25,000 members of the 'Army Air Defence College', 'Indian Naval Academy, Chilka' and 'Indian Coast Guard Station (ICGS) Gopalpur' also depends on Berhampur for transportation & their other needs.

The Odisha Development Forum members said for all these above reasons #Berhampur city is well deserved for a domestic airport but it is quite unclear why Ministry of Civil aviation and Odisha Government have never taken interest to establish an Airport in this city.

Once again Odisha Development Forum members requested the Union Ministry of Civil aviation and Odisha Chief Minister Shri Naveen Patnaik to consider the decades old demand of Ganjam People by establishment the long pending domestic & cargo Airport project in Berhampur.

Babita Patro, Secretary Swarajya Sahu, Executive Members Laxminarayan Padhy from Delhi, Ajaya Sahu from Hyderabad, Raj Abhisekh from Bhubaneswar, Tuna Maharana, Bibhudatta Chaudhury from Kolkata, Santosh Saka from Mumbai, Prakash Pradhan, B Shankar Patro from Kabisuryanagar, Akshya Dalai from Kandhamal and others participated in the meeting.

Prof.  Prahallad  Panda was an extraordinary academic, writer, author, columnist and a communicator par-excellence who fought throughout his life for the backward region of Southern Odisha. Forum demands streetlights in Brahmapur

In a letter to Housing and Urban Development ( HUD) Minister Pratap Jena, Odisha Development Forum president Ram Prasad Tripathy has demanded to install lighting facility in various roads at the outskirts of Brahmapur city.   He said  now the city is growing very fast in its nearby rural areas but without proper lighting facility. Not only the new settlements are coming up at the outskirts of the city, but also various educational institutions, establishments, hospitals, industries and offices of organizations are coming up in nearby locations, which are coming under Brahmapur Development Authority (BDA).   However, due to lack of proper planning and vision many important junctions and roads of Brahmapur city outskirts and its nearby areas are still without proper lights and street lights.
